It will also tell you which cookies we use, provide information about third parties that also place cookies on our Websites, and explain the choices you have with respect to our use of cookies.

What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device and which let us make your online experience better and more efficient. They allow us to recognize your device and browser, and collect and store information which we deem of importance for the improvement of our Websites and services.

Types of cookies

  • Session Cookies and Persistent Cookies
    • Session cookies are stored temporarily on the memory of your devices while you are visiting the Website and are erased once you close your browser.
    • Persistent cookies are stored for a predetermined amount of time, which varies from cookie to cookie. It is longer than the session cookies; however they also expire after some months. They aid us to understand whether you have previously visited our Websites or similar sites in the past.
  • First Party and Third Party Cookies
    • First Party cookies are set directly by our Websites or by any of the subdomains of the Websites.
    • Third Party cookies are set by websites not managed by us, such as our service providers or other marketing and technology partners.

We use both session and persistent cookies and first and third party cookies.

Why do we use cookies?

  • When you return to the Websites, cookies enable us to retrieve the information you previously provided, to help you more easily use the features that you customized. Because of our use of cookies, we can deliver faster and more accurate results and a more personalized Website experience. For example, if you create a member account, a cookie helps us to recall your specific information (such as user name, password and preferences).
  • Cookies help us recall:
    • tabbed information that keeps track of the tab or specific part of the Websites you are looking at;
    • language preferences to choose and remember the language in which material is shown;
    • the capability of your device to deliver various content depending on the browser device being used.
  • When you watch a video clip or listen to an audio clip on through the Websites, a cookie may take note of which media player (such as Real Player or Windows Media Player) and which type of clip (high or low bandwidth) you prefer to use on your device. Note, however, that you can change your video and audio preferences at any time or choose a player each time you view or listen to a clip.
  • Some parts of the Websites use cookies to track your traffic patterns. We do this in order to determine the usefulness of the Websites’ information to our users and to see how effective our navigational structure is in helping users reach that information. The CCA does not correlate this information with data about individual users, nor does it share this information or sell it to any third party.
  • We also use cookies to identify users who have been banned from using the Websites or any of our forums for behaviour that contradicts the Terms and Conditions of Use and to track click streams, for load balancing and to enable you to navigate through the Websites using redirection pages.

We do not use cookies to run programs or to deliver viruses to your computer or device. Cookies are uniquely assigned to your computer or device and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

More detail on how we and/or other companies use cookies is available at www.cookiesandyou.com.
